The entries of dominant countries in to developing countries for exploitative purposes and the consequent migration in search of refuge or better life conditions, configure a current framework of a very interesting ethnic and cultural miscegenation. The global multiculturalism of the contemporary world, and the non-linear construction of the identity of each individual who lives in it, are the main focusing point of this project. Breaking Boundaries aims to deconstruct the stereotype we make of people according to their phenotype, what, in the super-globalised world of the 21st century in which we live, is believed partial and obsolete. It also recognises the way in which identities have been transformed through the relocation and cross-cultural exchanges.
The project consists of portraits of people who comes from different countries, or people born to parents who once migrated, to live and create a family in a new place. The portraits were a part of a visual installation displayed along with jumbled subtitles, inviting the viewer to challenge their pre concepts when trying to identify each one of the subjects and link them to the correct caption.
